AppleSox Statistician of 17 Years Will Be Honored with 2017 Don Elliston President’s Award

Wenatchee North Rotary and the Wenatchee Valley College Department of Athletics are proud to announce the 2017 Don Elliston President’s Award honoree is Bruce Bennett.

For 17 seasons since 2000, Bennett has had perfect attendance as the official scorekeeper for the Wenatchee AppleSox before retiring. Bennett also wrote “The Bruce Report” - blurbs and in-depth analysis - and he was also a historian for a variety of sports in the Wenatchee Valley.

Bennett will be honored at the North Central Washington Sports Awards Banquet & WVC Hall of Fame Ceremony on June 6 at the Town Toyota Center.

“Bruce Bennett is one of the most honest and hard-working people I know. His professional integrity is beyond reproach,” said Jim Corcoran, co-owner/general manager for the AppleSox. “And he’s the only person I know that always has a sharp pencil with a clean eraser, ready to record whatever statistic needs to be kept for future reference. Bruce is a class act in all ways.”

Each year, the president of Wenatchee North Rotary, an organization dedicated to supporting student athletes in our region, selects an someone who has been integral to the sports culture of our region to honor with the Don Elliston President’s Award.

In addition to the Don Elliston President’s Award, the NCW Sports Awards & WVC Hall of Fame Ceremony honors the year’s Wenatchee Valley College Hall of Fame inductee(s) as well as the outstanding Female Athlete, Male Athlete, Female Team, Male Team, Female Team Coach and Male Team Coach in the NCW region.
